Bom Dia a todos!
Como falei ontem, estamos em Manaus, capital do estado do Amazonas. Chegamos aqui na quinta-feira de manhã depois de uma viagem tranqüila de quase 2 horas de Presidente Figueiredo até aqui.
Assim que chegamos a nosso hotel, os meninos já vibraram: estamos hospedados no Tropical Hotel de Manaus, um cinco estrelas com muito charme e muita opção de lazer, inclusive uma piscina de ondas, quadra de tênis e até mini zoológico. O pequeno tempo livre que tivemos pela manhã antes de sairmos para almoçar, foi aproveitado ao máximo!!! Almoçamos em um restaurante delicioso próximo ao hotel e partimos para nosso primeiro dia de atividades em Manaus. Visitamos o Museu de Ciências Naturais. Lá encontramos uma coleção de peixes, borboletas e outros animais amazônicos embalsamados por um moderno processo japonês. As meninas ficaram horrorizadas com o tamanho das aranhas e tiraram muitas fotos com as lindas borboletas!! Em seguida visitamos o Bosque da Ciência (INPA) onde todos tiveram a oportunidade de ver animais típicos da região como Ariranha, Peixe-boi da Amazônia, entre outros. Voltamos para nosso hotel e à noite presenciamos um espetáculo maravilhoso: O show do Boi Bumbá! Muita dança, cultura e folclore foram apresentados, e os meninos dançaram bastante e amaram! É realmente um espetáculo maravilhoso!
Ontem cedo fomos visitar um dos maiores monumentos deixados pela época da borracha: O Teatro Amazonas. Em seguida, visitamos o Palácio Rio Negro. Passamos também pelo Mercado Municipal (ainda está em reforma, mas deu para fazer algumas comprinhas!!)! Almoçamos e em seguida fomos visitar o Centro de Instrução de Guerra na Selva (CIGS). Vimos vários animais como macacos, antas, araras, cobras inclusive animais em extinção, como a onça pintada. Terminamos nosso tour no Shopping de Manaus para jantar e voltando ao hotel fizemos uma comemoração surpresa para as aniversariantes da viagem: Isabella e Angie!! Comemos um delicioso bolo de chocolate!!
Hoje tivemos a manhã livre para curtir mais um pouquinho o delicioso café da manhã e a infra-estrutura do hotel! Agora estamos todos prontos para embarcar no barco, onde vamos dormir 4 noites em redes e conhecer muitas coisas interessantes. Vamos ter a oportunidade de conhecer comunidades indígenas, nadar no Rio Negro e ainda ver o espetacular Encontro das Águas dos Rios Negro e Solimões que formam o Rio Amazonas; é um dos maiores espetáculos naturais do Brasil. Também vamos fazer o curso de sobrevivência na selva com instrutores do Exército entre outras atividades. No barco vamos ficar sem acesso à internet, portanto mando mais noticias/fotos assim que retornar a Manaus!

Bom Dia!!!!
We're in Manaus, the capital state of the Amazon. We arrived here on Thursday morning after an almost 2 hour bus ride from Presidente Figueiredo.
As soon as we arrived at the hotel, the exchange students were full of excitement: we're staying at the Manaus Tropical Hotel, a wonderful five star hotel with many options, including a wave pool, tennis court and even a mini zoo!! The little time we had during the morning, before going to lunch, was spent enjoying the leisure area of the hotel! We ate at a delicious restaurant near here and then we set out for out first activities in Manaus. We visited the Natural Science Museum, where we toured the collection of fish, butterflies, and other creatures embalmed by a modern Japanese process. The girls were amazed with the size of the spiders and took many pictures with the beautiful colorful butterflies. Then we visited Science Center where we saw many animals typical of the region including Ariranha, Manatee, and many others. We then returned to the hotel, and at night we went to see a spectacular show, the show Boi Bumbá. There was a lot of dancing and folklore in the show, which included hand made costumes of the indigenous people. It was an amazing telling of a local legend. The students danced a lot and loved it!!
Early yesterday morning we visited one of the biggest memorial left by rubber era: the Amazon Theater. Then we went to Rio Negro Palace and to Manaus Market. We had lunch and then visited CIGS, the army training center where a zoo with many endangered animals is located. Monkeys, parrots, snakes and large cats were all a part of our zoo tour. We finished our tour at The Amazon Shopping Mall for dinner and shopping, and returned to the hotel where we had a surprise for our student’s birthdays: Isabella and Angie!! We ate a delicious chocolate cake.
Today we had free morning to enjoy a little more the delicious breakfast and the infrastructure of our hotel. Now we are ready to leave on the boat, where we will sleep for four nights in hammocks and get to know many interesting things about living on the river. We will visit some Indian tribe, swim in Negro river and get to see the spectacular meeting of the waters: Negro River and Solimões, which form the Amazon River. The two waters are different colors and because of chemical differences in the water, do not mix very well. We will have a survival course too, and participate in many other activities. In these days, we won’t have internet access and new pictures will not be available. I'll send more news/pictures as soon as I come back to Manaus.
